The Newton Marasco Foundation (NMF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to work collaboratively on issues related to environmental stewardship.

  • NMF announces the nomination process for the 2011 Green Earth Book Award

    We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting submissions for the 2011 Green Earth Book Award! Submissions are being accepted in four categories — Picture Book, Children’s Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, and Nonfiction — and are due on November 1, 2010

  • NMF Announces the Winners of Our 2010 Environmental Photo Contest

    We are pleased to announce the winners of the 2010 Loudoun Valley High School photo contest called “Through Our Eyes: Celebrating the Beauty of Western Loudoun and the Blue Ridge”! Winners are: First place, Jessi Warbis who will receive a $100 prize; Second place, Jessica McCann who will receive a $75 prize; and Third place, Annika Markert who will receive a $50 prize. These winning photos, plus 83 additional submitted photos, will be displayed during the Loudoun Symphony’s May 15, 2010 “Mountains and Music” performance at Franklin Park in Purcellville, Virginia.

  • Chapman DeMary Trail makes the Washington Post

    We are more than pleased that the Washington Post published an article on October 29, 2009 all about the new Chapman DeMary Trail! This will provide wide coverage about the trail and the educational plans that are in the works. It also mentions how to become a Friend of the Trail.

    Support Loudoun Valley High School students as they work to preserve one of the last undeveloped parcels of land in the Town of Purcellville made of primarily old growth forest, and turn it into an outdoor classroom. You can become a Friend of the Trail and help turn this outdoor classroom into a reality.

  • April 8 — 10, 2010 — NMF celebrates the Green Earth Book Award

    We will bring our 2010 Green Earth Book Award-winners to Salisbury University to take part in their Children’s and Young Adult Literature Festival. Authors will visit schools, conduct talks on campus, and more.

  • April 10, 2010 — Nature Walk on the Chapman DeMary Trail

    On Saturday April 10th from 1pm to 2pm, naturalist and Loudoun Valley High School Environmental Explorations teacher, John DeMary will lead a walk on the 1-mile Chapman DeMary Trail which runs along the Catoctin Creek. DeMary will provide information about what makes this such a rich natural environment.

  • April 12, 2010 — Meadow Planting at Emerick Elementary School

    Students at Emerick Elementary in Purcellville, Virginia will be installing their first outdoor classroom! Students voted to install a meadow and are selecting plants for this habitat to attract a variety of pollinators. We welcome you to join the students and get your hands dirty while they teach you all they know about pollinators! Watch for more details about how you can help with this fun meadow habitat.

  • April 18, 2010 — Nature Walk on the Chapman DeMary Trail

    On Sunday, April 18th from 1pm to 2pm, Kristin Zimet from the Virginia Native Plant Society will lead a walk on the 1-mile Chapman DeMary Trail. The focus will be on the native flora growing along the Chapman DeMary Trail.

  • April 22, 2010 — Earth Day

    This April 22 is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! We are hearing a call from all types of organizations - including the White House - for individuals to renew the spirit of Earth Day. While every day is Earth Day at NMF, we also want to renew our efforts in celebration of this historic global movement. We are asking you to give $40 in honor of the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day!

  • April 23, 2010 — NMF presents the Greater Washington Eco-Golf Classic

    Join NMF on Friday, April 23, 2010 for the Greater Washington Eco Golf Classic. The day will be filled with exciting activity and proceeds from this event will go to our youth environmental programs in the greater Washington area.

  • April 26, 2010 — Wildlife Refueling Station Planting at Hillsboro Elementary School

    Students at Hillsboro Elementary in Hillsboro, Virginia will be installing a Wildlife Refueling Station. Each class has its own native bird and is working to select the plants that will attract these birds for this wonderful habitat. Please join us on April 26 and help these students with their new bird-friendly outdoor classroom! Watch for more details about how you can help with Hillsboro Wildlife Refueling Station.

  • April 2010 — enGAUGE it

    enGAUGE It provides students with the tools to educate drivers in their communities about the benefits of checking and correcting tire pressure each month. Several enGAUGE It events are happening in April with our partner high schools and youth groups.
