A Carbon-Neutral Event
Our 7th annual Greater Washington Eco-Golf Classic was held on Friday, April 24th at Stonewall Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. The tournament was a huge success, raising over $75,000 and playing with a full field of golfers!
The lucky winning foursome included Ian Olson, Craig Strong, Kyle Tanger, and Chip Jones. Great work, guys!
NMF’s Executive Board sponsored six Marines from the Wounded Warriors Regiment, Quantico, VA who participated in all events of the day, nearly taking top place! Each Marine proudly served in Iraq and Afghanistan and several were preparing for a return duty. We were very proud to have such dedicated men join us for the day.
In addition to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners, the tournament offered many opportunities to win prizes on different holes. Top prize was awarded for Closest to the Pin, Closest to the Jack, Men’s and Women’s Longest Drive and the Putting Contest. Ourisman Fairfax Toyota generously donated a 2009 Prius for the winner of the Hole- In- One Contest. Unfortunately we had to return the car this year but will bring it back in 2010 and hope a lucky golfer will walk away with the keys!
We would like to thank our Title and Green Sponsors for their very generous support of this year’s tournament. Our leading Title Sponsors were: Project Performance Corporation, Tetra Tech, SRA/ Environmental and Organizational Services, and Booz Allen Hamilton. Green Sponsors included The Ambit Group, FMJ Financial Services, Inc., Greenberg Traurig, and Sentech, Inc.
In addition to our title and green sponsors, we had over 100 other sponsors at various levels. Without their support, the success of this tournament would not be possible. We thank each and every one of our sponsors for their commitment to the Greater Washington Eco-Golf Classic and with helping us raise funds to continue the environmental education programs we offer to students in the Greater Washington-Metro area.
The heart and soul of the tournament is always the tremendous support we receive from our volunteers! This year we had a record number of volunteers come out for the day, helping with registration, check in, auction distribution, hole monitoring, Jack pouring and much, much more. We cannot thank our volunteers enough. The foundation truly is fortunate to have so many dedicated individuals willing to take a day from their work-week to assist with producing this momentous event. Special thanks goes to Amanda Dosch, Tournament Deputy Director; Elizabeth Wayt, Sponsorship Director; Jessica Sedgwick, Volunteer Director; Debi McGhee, Co-Chair of Players; and Gayle Jefferson, Auction Chair. Along with the above, each category had a dedicated support system which without we would not enjoy the tremendous success from the day
A very special Thank You goes to our two Honorary Co-Chairs: Mike Nigro and Mark Johnson. Focus and Determination were the buzz words for their tireless efforts in securing the many sponsorships for this event.
Plans are already underway for the 2010 Greater Washington Eco-Golf Classic so...
