NMF Takes enGAUGE It to the Environmental Film Festival

The 19th Annual Environmental Film Festival held March 15th — 27th, 2011 in Washington, DC was the perfect opportunity for our enGAUGE It program to take center stage. We were invited to join in the opening celebration on March 10th as film makers, producers, and fest enthusiasts kicked-off the two weeklong event at the Warner Building downtown.

enGAUGE It operates through student groups, and our local Bell Multicultural High School in DC was glad to show up for the festivities to teach attendees about the importance of tire gauging. The students shared facts about emission reduction and fiscal and environmental stewardship connected to checking tire pressure each month. NMF provided 200 tire gauges to be distributed as well as information cards. We were also excited to meet volunteers atthe reception from our own Sustainable Partner, Booz Allen Hamilton who is a key sponsor of the event!

NMF hopes to create an ongoing partnership with the Environmental Film Festival where energy and environment are the focus. In addition, students from Bell Multicultural High School will continue to run their enGAUGE It program this spring with additional outreach events.

UPS1UPS employees and local youth groups, in partnership with NMF, distributed 4,200 free tire gauges to motorists this weekend to teach them the importance of keeping tires properly inflated!

enGAUGE It was held at five shopping centers throughout the area on Saturday, October 23, including Shawan Plaza (Cockeysville), Congressional Plaza (Rockville), Bowie Town Center (Bowie), Potomac Mills (Woodbridge), and Leesburg Plaza (Leesburg).

UPS had many volunteers and their children at all five locations, and were also joined by PA Classics West 95 Girls Soccer Team at the location in Cockeysville, and 15 NMF volunteers UPS2across the five sites.

UPS and NMF received great exposure through joint UPS/NMF PR efforts and were featured on Comcast, WTOP’s Man About Town, and in some local papers. A press report is being compiled and will be posted to the NMF web site. In the meantime, check the following link to listen to the WTOP Man About Town segment.

Thanks to UPS for their hard work in getting the word out about the importance of keeping tires properly inflated. We hope to stage more enGAUGE It events with UPS soon!

Stay tuned for more plans for more enGAUGE It events in 2011!
