enGAUGE It

Every year, drivers waste billions of dollars — and more than a billion gallons of gas — because of under-inflated tires. To help save money, save lives, and save the environment, NMF initiated a new program designed for youth groups and businesses to lead called enGAUGE It.

enGAUGE It puts youth groups and businesses in the driver’s seat in educating and encouraging drivers to check and correct their tire pressure every month. By signing up for the enGAUGE It challenge, NMF will provide the tools and materials youth groups and businesses need to hold their own outreach event, during which they give away free tire gauges and information cards!

ENGUAGE ITNMF will provide up to 500 tires gauges, plus the templates for outreach documents such as posters, flyers, e-vites and more.

The enGAUGE It challenge gives youth groups and businesses the tools and information to have a meaningful impact within their communities and on the environment.

UPS, NMF, and local youth distributed 4,200 free tire gauges to motorists on October 23, 2010 to teach them the importance of keeping tires properly inflated.

The public awareness campaign, called enGAUGE It, was held at five shopping centers throughout the area on Saturday, October 23, including Shawan Plaza (Cockeysville), Congressional Plaza (Rockville), Bowie Town Center (Bowie), Potomac Mills (Woodbridge), and Leesburg Plaza (Leesburg).

“We want to give back to the community,” said Jen Buhr Braud of the Industrial Engineering Department in UPS’ Chesapeake District. “As leaders in the delivery industry, we know first-hand how properly inflated tires can improve safety and significantly reduce the amount of gas needed to operate a car or truck.”
