Open to high school students in Loudoun County, Virginia, students were asked to submit posters that recognize and incorporate the recent efforts various members of the Loudoun County community (i.e. businesses, schools, civic organizations) have made in going “green”.

NMF asked students at Loudoun Valley High School to design a poster that will be part of our “The Legacy of Rachel Carson — A Centennial Celebration” campaign. The poster will be used throughout 2007 to promote the nationwide centennial tribute and will be officially unveiled on May 27, 2007 during a Capitol Hill event with members of Congress.

The winning designs were chosen from 16 entries for their originality, artistic merit, portrayal of the theme and reproducibility. The winners were presented with professionally-created versions of their posters and cash awards of $300 for first place, $150 for second and $50 for third. NMF also gave $400 to the school’s art department for supplies.
NMF sponsored a poster contest for high school graphics art students at Loudoun Valley High School in Purcellville, Virginia. Students created posters to support our “No Child Left Inside” workshop which will provide elementary school age students out-of-classroom learning opportunities, specifically in environmental science studies.

The first place winner was awarded with a $200 cash prize and her poster will be reproduced and used as a workshop handout and for teachers to hang in their classrooms. The second place winner received a $75 cash prize, third place received a $50 cash prize, and fourth place received a $25 gift certificate. In addition, NMF donated $650 to the Loudoun Valley High School art department to support the integration of art and environmental science.
