NMF hopes to reinvigorate our national dialog on Earth Day celebrations and the importance in making every citizen aware of environmental issues. We plan and schedule our own program activities to coincide with Earth Day, as well as take part in a variety of local and national Earth Day events and activities. Our volunteers become involved in Earth Day activities at the local and community level, helping to bring attention to environmental issues important and relevant to individual communities.
Here are some of the Earth Day activities we participated in:
NMF volunteers read environmental books to elementary school students to help raise their awareness on environmental issues and to help develop a love of nature in students. Our Green Earth Book Award winners are often used in the story time activities and are then donated to the schools.
NMF attended festivals in many of our volunteer areas, providing literature on environmental issues, speaking out about the importance of Earth Day, and helping raise awareness and educate citizens and students on the things they can do on a daily basis to help nurture and protect our planet.
Our North Carolina volunteers worked with the Montessori School in Jacksonville, North Carolina to develop a curriculum for elementary school-level students. Activities were developed for each day during Earth Day week and included environmental lessons, nature walks, art projects and more.
Our book award program culminates the week of Earth Day with an award presentation on the campus of Salisbury University.

We used the week of Earth Day to distribute simple tips and information on what ordinary citizens can do to protect our environment.
