A Letter from our Board Chair and President

Dear Friends of The Nature Generation,

When it comes to protecting our planet for our children and for all future generations, we are living in a time of great urgency and tremendous hope. Global climate agreements and new policies and legislation here in the United States have given renewed energy to our efforts to combat climate change and create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future. Even with those important steps, our greatest reason for hope is the commitment, enthusiasm, creativity, and resolve of the next generation of environmental stewards.

Amy and I would like to welcome you to learn more about The Nature Generation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that inspires and empowers children and young adults to make a difference in the world. Our website is a great place to start learning more about our impactful programs and we invite you to reach out to us if you have questions about how to get more involved. Whether you’ve worked side-by-side with us over the past 18 years or you are new to NatGen, we welcome your interest and participation!

NatGen engages with kids and young adults through three programs: Read Green, Think Green, and Act Green.

Read Green includes our flagship program – The Green Earth Book Award. The Green Earth Book Award is the nation’s first environmental stewardship award for Children and Young Adult books. Since 2005, it has helped to identify and raise the profile of the best environmental fiction and non-fiction books and their authors. Just as importantly, NatGen works hard to get these amazing books into the hands of children and young adults, where the power of the stories that are being told can really make a difference.

Think Green provides invaluable free resource guides and tools that provide educators with new ideas and lesson plans that can augment existing curriculum. The tools are also fantastic resources for parents and guardians to use at home with their kids.

Act Green is driven by our STEM Seed Grants, which support on ongoing efforts to engage children and young adults about STEM and environmental literacy. These mini grants can be used to fund small-scale start-up efforts or ongoing projects that are focused on environmental stewardship. We welcome applications from organizations of all kinds, including schools, museums, libraries, military or veterans’ groups, faith-based organizations, or other nonprofits.

Finally, NatGen is a fully donor-funded organization. All of our impactful programs are made possible through corporate sponsorships and individual donations from our wonderful supporters. Nothing we’ve accomplished to date would have been possible without you – our committed volunteers and donors.

We hope that what you learn about NatGen motivates you to get involved as a volunteer or donor or moves you to take advantage of one of our programs. We’d love to have you join us in inspiring and empowering the next generation of environment stewards – The Nature Generation.

Warm regards,

Ian Kline, Board Chair & Amy Marasco, President
